Harmonic reducer has become the core transmission component of semiconductor wafer handling equipment due to its high precision, high rigidity and compact structure. Its working principle is based on elastic deformation transmission: it consists of a wave generator, a flexible gear and a rigid gear. The wave generator causes the flexible gear to deform periodically and mesh with the rigid gear to achieve a high reduction ratio (usually 50:1~160:1) and micron-level repeat positioning accuracy (within ±10 arc seconds).
In semiconductor equipment, the accuracy retention of harmonic reducer is crucial:
1. Backlash-free transmission: The elastic deformation of the flexible gear eliminates the gear gap, ensures the positioning stability of the wafer handling robot arm, and avoids micro-vibration affecting the chip yield.
2. Long life and low wear: Using special alloy steel and lubrication technology, it can still maintain accuracy under high-speed start and stop (semiconductor equipment requires hundreds of actions per minute), and the life can reach more than 10,000 hours.
Its applications cover scenes such as wafer handling robots, lithography machine worktables, and probe stations, meeting the needs of semiconductor manufacturing for nano-level motion control. For example, in the wafer transfer robot, the harmonic reducer directly drives the vacuum adsorption end effector to achieve a repeatable positioning accuracy of ±0.01mm, ensuring that the wafer is not damaged during high-speed transportation. In the future, as semiconductor technology develops towards smaller processes, the high-precision characteristics of the harmonic reducer will further promote the upgrade of equipment performance.
